Dark Shadows
Spring/Fall 2012
This piece explores everyone’s dark, diva side. I attempted to convey the message that frothy darkness of this piece was a giant wave, growing with power and energy, but the darkness could be enjoyed by the wearer. There are 70 yards of tulle on the garment, which I sculpted and shaped to create the silhouette by tacking it together in strategic places. The effect I sought was to take something wild and out of control and show it in a dramatic way that was still in check—by taming 70 yards of gauzy, ink-black fabric. I wanted someone to put on this garment and instantly feel strong and dangerous, but impressive and in control.
